Ruth Puttick

BLOOMBERG PUBLIC INNOVATION FELLOW

Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation
at Johns Hopkins University

Ruth Puttick has spent more than a decade advising governments and organizations worldwide on innovation and impact. She recently served as Honorary Senior Research Fellow at University College London’s Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose, working in collaboration with Bloomberg Philanthropies to develop a new Public Sector Capabilities Index.

Puttick runs a research and advisory consultancy operating in the public, private, and nonprofit sectors. Previously, she served as a Senior Policy Advisor to the U.K. Government Open Innovation Team, where she brokered partnerships between government policymakers and leading academics. At Nesta, the U.K.'s innovation agency, she led large-scale studies of public and social innovation.

Puttick’s PhD in Political Science & Urban Studies from Newcastle University explored the influence of philanthropic foundations on city government innovation and decision-making, a topic about which she continues to research and publish. As a Bloomberg Public Innovation Fellow, she will focus on how cities can effectively leverage foundation support to drive innovation, solve problems, and improve resident outcomes.
