As part of the School of Government and Policy at Johns Hopkins, Bloomberg Public Innovation Fellows have the opportunity to reflect on their experience in an academic setting, create new insights about the field of public innovation in cities and for residents, and influence how residents experience local government by advancing public innovation practice.

We are seeking accomplished, reflective practitioners who are deeply engaged in the work of public innovation in cities—leaders who are eager to step back from day-to-day responsibilities to ask bigger questions, explore promising ideas, and contribute meaningfully to the field. Ideal candidates will bring a strong track record of impact in the public sector at the local government level along with the curiosity and drive to generate insights that benefit others.

Fellows are mid-career or senior professionals with demonstrated city leadership experience and a desire to connect practice with research. We are especially interested in individuals who:

• Are motivated to codify, share, or expand upon lessons from their own work;
• Have ideas or questions that could meaningfully advance public innovation in cities and for residents;
• Are ready to engage actively with a diverse cohort of Fellows, the Center, the University, and cities around the world;
• Are open to refining their ideas in collaboration with faculty, peers, and partners.

Application Guidance

The Center is committed to the success of the Bloomberg Public Innovation Fellows. This application is your opportunity as a practitioner to articulate what you hope to accomplish as a Fellow. If selected, your application will also help the Center determine how best to support your success during the Fellowship period.

Successful Fellowship proposals:

• Make a clear contribution to the field of public innovation for city governments and their residents.
• Align with the Center’s goals, programs, and/or the needs of city partners.
• Have a realistic timeline that can be completed within your Fellowship term (one or two years).
