As part of its expanding team, the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University (the Center) is seeking an experienced Program Administrator of Student Engagement who will support the management of the Center’s growing student engagement opportunities, including collaboration with cities from across the Center’s global network and participation in research related to the field of public innovation.

The Center was established in 2021 through an expansion of the long-standing partnership between Bloomberg Philanthropies and Johns Hopkins University as part of the growing focus on public sector innovation.
Working within the Center’s Academic Practice, which brings world class research and students into city halls and helps government leaders find effective, evidence-based solutions for public sector innovation, the Program Coordinator for Student Engagement will report to the Academic Director and work closely with Center staff, academic departments and their students across Johns Hopkins University, along with cities within the Center’s network. This role will serve an integral role in ensuring outstanding execution of administrative, programmatic, and operational services for the Center’s student programming and events. This includes the student fellowship program which will provide undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to work directly with local government leaders to research and tackle pressing priorities; research and teaching assistant opportunities for trainings, lectures, or classes affiliated with the Center; membership in the alumni network of students who have participated in the Center’s activities and programs; and more.
This individual will be responsible for delivering these programs, designing additional student-facing initiatives to promote public innovation practice and learning, and working with other program areas to develop and advance a robust research agenda for the Center. The Center is committed to addressing structural and entrenched racism and recognizes the public sector’s role in perpetuating these legacies. The Program Coordinator must be willing to think about reimagined government, knowledge, and engagement models through the lens of dismantling these legacies.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day operations of the Center’s student engagement program, including logistics, communications and follow-up with undergraduate and graduate students, affiliated Johns Hopkins schools and faculty, city officials, and other stakeholders for student opportunities (student fellowships, thesis projects, research assistantships, courses), lead preparation (including background research), progress check-ins, and critical follow-ups.
- Monitor, coordinate and support student engagement work plans, project activities, outputs, and progress towards anticipated results; develop and improve internal processes.
- Coordinate hiring and onboarding processes for student fellows and research assistants, including preparing job descriptions, candidate requirements, and information from affiliated schools at Johns Hopkins and network cities.
- Track student progress, surface needs and help address challenges.
- Track equity metrics for student programming.
- Manage key student events, including student fellowship information sessions and research seminar convenings.
- Draft and assist in the production of high-quality reports, presentations, memos and materials.
Partnership/Client Coordination & Management
- Manage internal and external relationships and coordinate activities with diverse partners including internal teams, JHU schools and divisions, philanthropic organizations, and city governments.
- Coordinate outreach to student groups across Johns Hopkins University to ensure wide reach of information about student opportunities.
- Balance external partner requests with internal capacity and coordinate timelines across projects.
- Act as a liaison across all areas to ensure effective and efficient goals, scope, progress, and completion of projects.
- Foster and contribute to a forward-thinking and service-oriented culture of integrity, respect, and equity in action.
- Perform routine administrative functions as needed, including scheduling and document management.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Three years progressively responsible experience required.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional experience may substitute for required education to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.*
* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

- Experience in program coordination or project management in an academic setting.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in coordination with external partners.
- Proven track record of managing all aspects of successful projects throughout their lifecycle, delivering timely and high-quality outputs.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and calendars simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
- Superior organizational skills and ability to set priorities and respond quickly as priorities change.
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build good relationships with peers and to interact with diverse stakeholders, including students, faculty and government leaders.
