Biography
Jovan Hackley, Communications Director for the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University, leverages nearly 20 years of experience in strategic communications to lead the growing communications practice that fosters connection and collaboration among city leaders and amplifies innovation around the world. Most recently the Director of Communications for the Center for Community Progress, Jovan has helped nonprofit, business, and government organizations drive impact and tell their stories. As the Associate Vice President of Strategy, Marketing, & Communications at Grambling State University, he secured $17 million in funding for the first Digital Library at a Historically Black College or University, crafted marketing campaigns that resulted in record-breaking enrollment increases, and helped create a Homecoming Weekend event that brought together students, Adidas, and Beyonce. Jovan has worked with the Zillow Group, Trulia.com, Student Loan Genius (Vault), where he led government relations, marketing, and fundraising efforts that would create America’s first student loan benefits company – a category that now includes more than 150 competing service providers.
A native of Arlington, Virginia, Jovan holds a Master's in Professional Studies in Political Management from George Washington University and a Bachelor's in Mass Communications from the Virginia Commonwealth University.
