Amanda Daflos, the inaugural Executive Director of the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University, brings more than 25 years of experience in government transformation and public innovation to her role. Most recently, as the City of Los Angeles’ Chief Innovation Officer and Director of Los Angeles Innovation Team (i-team), she oversaw responses to urgent and long-standing issues including police hiring and recruitment, employee benefits, gender equity in city services and operations, sanitation, affordable housing and the future of work. Daflos served as Mayor Garcetti’s key advisor during the COVID-19 pandemic and lead the landmark effort to pass paid parental leave citywide. She also imagined and implemented consequential projects like MyVoiceLA and a five year effort to transform housing policy to recognize and incentivize accessory dwelling units as an important part of the solution to Los Angeles’ housing crisis – a housing product that now makes up more than 60% of new construction in Los Angeles annually.

Recognized as the leading government influencer among the Top 100 Local Government Leaders in 2018 by Engaging Local Government Leaders, Daflos’ work has received numerous awards and was recognized as a Fast Company World Changing Idea. Her work has been featured in the New York Times, Washington Post, LA Times, Fast Company and U.S. News and World Reports. Previous to her mayoral appointment, Daflos worked for Deloitte Consulting where she was a leader in the public sector practice for nearly a decade with a focus on government transformation.
