Johns Hopkins University is seeking an Events Manager for the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation (the Center). The Center is fastly becoming a globally recognized organization focused on advancing the art and science of public sector innovation, especially among local governments. The Center works to increase awareness of the impact of local government innovation with a special emphasis on the ways in which residents contribute to the design, development, and delivery of new services and policy approaches.
Working closely with the Director of Communications, the Events Manager will support the build-out of the Center’s expansive communications efforts and the launch of dynamic events that bring together innovators from around the world. The ideal candidate will have prior experience designing events across mediums for publicly-oriented organizations and passion about the work of the new Center.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Help stand up a new team leading the design and execution of dynamic events that bring together leading city innovators and academics from around the world, including for the Bloomberg Cities Network and the Chief Innovators Studio at the annual CityLab.
- Design and implement marketing plans for events, working with Communications colleagues to prepare promotional and day-of materials, including invitations, email communication, social media posts, and collateral.
- Conceptualize events from start to finish, including setting goals and target audiences, recruiting and prepping speakers, collaborating with partner organizations, developing agendas, managing guest lists, and coordinating day-of activities.
- Provide mentorship and day-to-day management to the Events Assistant.
- Manage relationships with vendors, hotels, venues, and other external organizations as needed.
- Create event experiences that are inclusive and accessible.
- Prepare reports, summaries, presentations, and other work products for dissemination to the Center’s leadership and external partners, including Bloomberg Philanthropies.
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Five years related experience including supervisory and management experience.
- Additional education may be substituted for some experience.*
* JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

- 5-7 years’ experience running large events such as conferences, peer learning networks, and symposiums.
- Experience managing events across different mediums, including in-person and virtual.
- Experience in engaging others to support a movement.
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to work productively with a range of partners and speakers, including elected officials and academics, to shape and execute a vision for events.
- Ability to develop events that advance programmatic and educational goals, such as skills-building in government innovation.
- Track record of identifying and shaping storytelling opportunities and producing polished written products for public audiences.
- Some understanding of the types of challenges municipal governments typically face preferred
- High proficiency in WordPress, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, project management software, and virtual meeting platforms; working knowledge of HTML and CSS; proficiency in social media and other digital marketing tools.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and calendars simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
- Superior organizational skills and ability to set priorities and respond quickly as priorities change.
- Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build good relationships with peers and to interact with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to collect and synthesize information and provide summary reports.
- Excellent content creation and writing skills.
- Ability to work both cooperatively within a team and independently.
- Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and an ability to relate articulately and with diplomacy with diverse groups including President, Provost, trustees, faculty, staff, alumni, major supporters of the university, and the general public.
- Must be organized and demonstrate ability to work independently, multi- task, function effectively in fast-paced environment.
- Must show great attention to detail and follow through to completion within time constraints.
- Proficient computer skills in word processing, spreadsheet maintenance, and email systems.
