BLOOMBERG PUBLIC INNOVATION FELLOW
Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation
at Johns Hopkins University
Eliza Erickson is an experienced public-sector leader with city- and state-level experience in innovation and civic engagement. As a senior member of Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro’s Office of Transformation & Opportunity, Erickson identified challenges and drove process improvements, culture change, and innovation in permit reform, launching the state’s first Permit Accelerator program. Her role focused on identifying obstacles and opportunities across departments’ permit ecosystems to drive economic development across Pennsylvania.
Prior to joining the Shapiro Administration, Erickson served as the Director of Innovation & Strategy for the City of Philadelphia, where she spent nine years building and growing a nationally recognized model of government innovation called “People, Place, Process,” and managed a flagship portfolio of programs, including an Innovation Academy, Lab, and Fund.
Erickson studied history and religious studies at the University of Virginia and subsequently received her master’s degree in public policy from the University of Michigan.
As a Bloomberg Public Innovation Fellow, Erickson will explore how to assess and strengthen local governments’ readiness for innovation.
